The Journey

By Lora Lora Colautti, CTACC

We’ve all heard the saying “Life is about the journey, not the destination.” What does it really mean?

For me, it’s about remembering that there is never really any destination at all.

Through out our lives we have goals and experiences that we want to achieve. Even though they are specific things to get to they’re merely a new platform from which we shoot off new “rockets of desire”.

They help us build our passion and excitement so that we may choose what new goals and experiences we want to move in the direction of next. These platforms aren’t destinations. They’re part of the journey.

And often when we reach these platforms the excitement is short lived (at least at the intensity in which we conjured up the want of them in the first place). When we are standing in the moment of the platforms, we now have new excitement and new wants and new passions that propel us forward and propel us further along our journey. It’s the joy in the conjuring up of energy and moments along the way that life is really about.

Marriage is a wonderful example. It isn’t about the day of the marriage. It’s about you becoming who you truly are and in that attracting a wonderful life partner. It’s about the growing together as a couple and as individuals as you get to know each other through out your dating time. It’s about sharing in moments with your loved ones while planning the wedding and celebrating on the wedding day. Then it’s about all of the ways in which you and your partner choose to move through your years together as husband and wife. Whether you choose to be parents, grow your careers, create a living space to call a home…

It’s never about one moment in time. It’s about all of the moments put together that create the experience and the journey of life. “Life isn’t measured by the number of breaths we take but by the number of moments that take our breath away.”

There is only ever one true destination in life. And that is the being place of the moment, the now. And you are always there whether you’re conscious of it or not.

Don’t expend your life’s time and energy trying to get to someplace. All you have to do is slow down and just be. When you do this you’ll realize you’ve already arrived at the most wonderful destination you could imagine. When you’re present in your now moments, you truly are enjoying the ride.
