“Connect with a sincere desire to make a difference in the lives of others and it will override anything, including people, situations and all negative mind chatter that tries to get in your way.” AmondaRose Igoe
Does it Burn?
The public speaking industry needs individuals who are committed. We need courageous leaders and speakers who are in it for the right reasons. It is time to tap into and talk about things you are passionate about. You must go deep within to find your reasons for doing what you are doing.
If a speaker doesn’t have an undeniable passion for what they are presenting, why should the audience listen to you or even care?
Ask yourself these following questions.
- Do I have a real passion for what I am talking about?
- Do I have a burning desire to get my message out to others?
- Do I have such a strong commitment to changing lives that I will do anything to overcome my fear?
If you said, “Yes!” Congratulations! You are on the right track. It wasn’t always that way for me. I had to first connect with my life’s purpose and my true passion for helping others before I could ever have the true success that I wanted. I had to connect with my “Burning Desire”, deep inside of me, to make a difference in the lives of others, so that it would override anything that tried to get in my way.
As I started to get in touch with my true passion for empowering others through public speaking, I rushed to come up with a topic to speak about. I chose to talk about organizing and de-cluttering one’s home and office. Since it was something that so many people struggle with and it was something I had became really good at, it seemed the perfect choice for me! This had to be a winning topic for me because so many people needed relief from their overwhelming clutter, and I could teach what I knew so well!
I began speaking to groups and organizations about letting go of their clutter and getting organized. I did everything I thought I should do. I tried to convince my audience that I was passionate about organizing and helping them get rid of the clutter. However, your audience will always know when your heart isn’t truly in your topic. It is something you can’t fake. As a result, no matter how hard I tried to put on a big smile, every “Organizing” speaking event seemed like a chore. My audience could sense that too.
When you do not feel passionate about your topic, it makes it a thousand times harder to create and deliver a powerful presentation. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, I absolutely LOVE teaching the art of public speaking today. It is something that I am truly passionate about. It’s rewarding to see my clients overcome their challenges and become the powerful speaker they sought to become. Knowing that I played a part in their success propels me to learn and do even more.
Remember, you can’t fake a burning desire. You know when you are faking it and so will your audience. Because of this, true public speaking success will remain somewhat elusive for you. The next time you have to give a presentation, be creative and incorporate something that you DO love to talk about. Relate it to your topic. By doing so, the passion in your heart will transfer to your topic. Then, simply, watch for the many blessings that will unfold.
